Did you know that the paper industry plants more trees than it harvests? Without the paper industry sustainable forests may not be planted.
Paper is biodegradable, renewable and one of the world’s most sustainable industries. Forestry plantations provide clean air, clean water and valuable carbon storage.
We use direct CTP (Computer to Plate) technology and where possible Agfa chemical-free plates that only require gum to develop the image which is water-soluble and harmless.
The CTP printing plates are made from 100% aluminium and once used are sent for recycling.
Sheet sizes used to print coasters have been improved to increase yield per sheet and minimise waste.
We are always looking for ways to improve our eco-conscious efforts and printing processes are reviewed frequently to ensure the procedures and products used are the most eco-friendly options available.
The beer mat board is produced from wood pulp. The pulp is made from a mix of recycled paper pulp (about 85%) and Scandinavian indigenous softwood.
The softwood is purchased from forests that follow the Sustainable Forestry Program where more trees are planted than are felled.
Our beer mat board supplier is FSC-certified. Energy used for production is purchased from renewable sources (mainly hydro power) and both fresh and recycled water are used in production.
Recycled pulp is a light brown colour and is unsuitable for printing. To make recycled board printable the sheet must be bleached and have fillers added. To produce recycled board bonding agents are used which reduce the absorbency of the board and defeat the purpose of a coaster.
Due to these processes we believe that sourcing from a sustainable forest is a better decision for the environment.
Our beer mat board is 100% recyclable.
All waste sheets and skeletons are collected and recycled in a standard paper recycling plant. All packing materials are 100% recyclable.
All endeavours have been made by us to use recyclable materials, recycle waste, use chemical-free processes and create a recyclable product.
Packaging has been reviewed to minimise material used and no plastic (other than pallet wrap) is used in our packaging process unless specifically requested.
Our commitment to the environment reaches beyond production. Through collaboration with organisations such as Greenpeace and within our own operations our team makes every effort to create a more sustainable workplace.
